Edward Burleson, Jr. was born on November 26, 1826 in Tennessee to Edward and Sarah (Owen) Burleson and moved to Texas in 1830. During his long career as a soldier, Burleson fought in the Mexican War with Benjamin McCulloch's Texas Mounted Volunteers, served in the Texas Rangers as a lieutenant and major with John S.
